First of all, removing a swimming pool is more expensive than most people assume. To fill in a swimming pool correctly, there's a lot more to it than just filling it in with dirt.

Unfortunately, a lot of people hire companies that don't know what they're doing. That's all they do is fill it in with soil, and it ends up costing them a lot more money later with washouts and settling issues.

If you're going to fill in your Swimming pool, I suggest hiring someone who knows what they're doing and who has done it for a while. Also, if you hire somebody who does not know what they're doing, they underestimate what their costs are going to be.

I've noticed that when I lose a bid to a company two or three thousand dollars less than me, that company realizes that they're going to lose money on the job.  They have to either charge the customer more or walk away from the situation.

So keep that in mind it's just like anything else you get what you pay for.

The bigger the pool, the higher the price, the lower the pool, the lesser it costs. A dump truck only gets about a hundred yards away from the lake. If a dump truck cannot get close to the pool, it makes the job a lot more complicated and time-consuming, so obviously, that's going to raise the price pretty significantly.

If you fill in the pool in the winter when pool renovators are not busy, you're going to save a lot of money. For example, if we fill a  pool in December or January, we're going to charge probably three or four thousand dollars less than in June to fill the pool when we're swamped. And our crews are under a lot of strain to keep up with our schedule. So if you're going to fill in your pool, I would suggest waiting until December or January to do it.

90% of the pool fillings that we do fall somewhere between $7500 and  $9,500. Some get up a  lot higher than expectations just because of access issues and things like that. For most residential pools, we can get the dump trucks within one or two hundred feet, so the cost is not significant for access.
